What's changing on ChessDial from 1 November 2026

Coaches set their own prices, GST is never added on top, and every booking comes with a receipt and invoices for the session and our convenience fee. Everything that changes, for students and for coaches.

For students

  • The price you see is the price you pay. No GST on top.
  • A receipt and invoices for every booking: one for the session, one for our convenience fee.
  • A GST invoice for your business, if you need one.
  • Refunds work exactly as before.

For coaches and academies

  • Set any price from ₹99 to ₹9,999.
  • Your share stays at 90%.
  • Invoices issued in your name, for you.
  • TDS and TCS, only where the law asks for them.

Why: ChessDial becomes a marketplace

Until now, ChessDial sold you the demo session itself, so we added 18% GST on top of every price for a student in India. From 1 November 2026 we work the way most marketplaces in India do: the coach or academy sells the session, and ChessDial is the e-commerce operator it is sold through. We take the payment on their behalf, hold it until the window to report a problem has closed, and pay them. Our 10% becomes a convenience fee: our own charge to you for the booking, with its own invoice.

Everything below follows from that. We no longer sell the session, so we no longer add GST to it. A coach who is registered for GST includes it in their own price, as any registered seller does. One who is not registered charges none.

For students

The price on the profile is the whole price

Nothing is added at checkout. A ₹199 class costs ₹199. Checkout still shows the split - 90% to your coach, 10% to ChessDial as a convenience fee - and the price already includes any GST, ours and your coach’s.

A receipt and invoices for every booking

Your booking confirmation email comes with two PDFs, the way an online order does. You will also find them on your bookings page, under the booking.

Receipt
ChessDial's receipt for the whole payment: what you paid, how, and where it went.
Invoices
One for the session, in your coach's or academy's name - a tax invoice with their GSTIN and the GST in the price if they are registered, an invoice without GST if not. And ChessDial's own tax invoice for the convenience fee.
Credit notes
If you get a refund. One against each invoice that money came back on.

Who you are buying from

Checkout and invoices show the coach or academy and the state and country they work from. For unregistered coaches, detailed street addresses are kept private — only their state, country, and PIN appear on invoices. Full legal address appears only if the coach or academy is registered for GST. If you ever need to take a complaint up with them directly, contact us and our grievance officer will assist.

Need a GST invoice for your business?

  1. 1At checkout, choose Need a GST invoice? and enter your GSTIN.
  2. 2We check the number and fill in the state from it. Enter your business’s legal name and address as they appear on the GST portal.
  3. 3Check them against the GST portal - we give you the link - and confirm.

The invoices are then made out to your business. A GSTIN can be on only one ChessDial account. Our tax invoice for the convenience fee always carries your GSTIN, so you can claim its GST. For the session, only a coach who is registered for GST can issue a tax invoice you can claim input tax credit on; from one who is not, you get an invoice without GST in your business’s name.

Billing address at checkout

You provide your billing address and PIN or postal code directly at checkout. For students in India, choosing a state is mandatory from the list of Indian states; students abroad enter their state or region as free text. It is saved to your student profile and autofills on future bookings. Your full billing details appear on your receipts and invoices.

Refunds do not change

  • The coach never got in touch, or did not show up: the session fee, 90% of the price, comes back.
  • The coach never answered anything at all: the whole amount comes back, and the coach is unlisted.
  • You have 7 days to report a problem once the session is marked complete.
  • New: a credit note now comes with every refund.

The details are in the Refund Policy.

For coaches and academies

Set your own price

The fixed tiers are gone. Type any price from ₹99 to ₹9,999, or tap a quick pick. Your current price carries over, so there is nothing to do unless you want a different one.

Your price for students abroad

If you coach from India, students outside India pay in US dollars. We suggest a dollar price from your rupee price - about ₹80 to the dollar, rounded up to the next $x.99 - and you can now set your own instead.

Price in IndiaSuggested abroad
₹99$1.99
₹199$2.99
₹299$3.99
₹499$6.99
₹999$12.99
₹1,999$24.99
₹4,999$62.99
₹9,999$124.99

Coaching from outside India? Your dollar price stays as it is. You can change it whenever you like, anywhere from $1.99 to $124.99. A $1.49 price set before 1 November stays valid.

Your share stays at 90%

You keep 90% of every price, rounded down to the whole rupee - a ₹199 class pays you ₹179. The other ₹20 is our convenience fee: our own charge to the student, invoiced to them by us, with our GST in it, which we pay. It is never a charge to you.

If you are registered for GST

Your share of the price includes your GST. We issue a tax invoice in your name for your share of every booking, and you pay the GST on it in your own returns, as you do today. A ₹199 class, sold to a student in your own state:

Filed a Letter of Undertaking? Add it with your GSTIN, and classes for students abroad go out without GST.

If you are not registered for GST

Most coaches are not, and that is completely fine. GST registration is optional if your turnover is within the registration limit (₹20 lakh a year, or ₹10 lakh in some north-eastern and hill states). You do not need to provide a GST number or make a declaration. Invoices are issued in your name without GST, and for your privacy, only your state, country, and PIN code are printed on student invoices — we keep your full address secure in our internal records.

Tax on your payouts

TDS, 0.1%
Income tax, under section 393 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (section 194-O of the old Act). For individuals and HUFs, only once your bookings through ChessDial cross ₹5 lakh in a financial year, counted per PAN and including bookings before 1 November. For companies, firms and everyone else, from the first rupee. 5% if a PAN is missing or inoperative.
TCS, 0.5%
GST, collected only if you have added a GSTIN, on your sales net of refunds.

Neither is a fee. Both are filed against your own PAN or GSTIN, show up in your own tax records, and count towards the tax you owe. Your earnings page shows both, and each month you get a payout statement.

What to do next

  1. 1Log in. A quick pop-up asks for your address, state, and PIN code. For unregistered coaches, only state, country, and PIN appear on student invoices; your full address is kept for internal records.
  2. 2Add your GST number if you have one. If your turnover is within the threshold, this is optional and can be skipped.
  3. 3Check your price, and your price abroad, on your dashboard.

Under 18? Nothing changes for you: payouts and tax stay with your parent or guardian’s PAN.
